To the north are two fairly recent structures built to
replace two of the oldest buildings of Bath, destroyed in the early 1900's fire. The Bath
School (No 16): built in 1910 is the third
structure on the site of the Province's first Grammar School and Public Library built in
1811. The school's first teacher was Barnabas Bidwell, a radical political reformer and
supporter of William Lyon McKenzie. Across Church Street is St. John's Anglican Church (No 17) of 1925. The original of 1793 was built
under the guidance of Rev. John Langhorn. The parish claims to be one of the five oldest
in Upper Canada.
