WHAT IS THE LAYER CAKE HALL?

It was built by the village carpenter, Abraham Harris, in 1859 in the Gothic revival style of architecture. It received its name from both its elaborate ornamentation and the use of its interior. During the 1890' s the Presbyterians occupied the lower storey, or layer, while the Anglicans used the upper storey as a church hall.

Today the lower level serves as the Bath Branch of the County Library, open regularly through the year; while upstairs is housed the Bath Museum open to the public in the summer months.

Although much of the running costs of this building are supported from its rental earnings, additional funds have had to be raised for a new roof in 2003 and for painting the exterior in 2004.
